Athletic Directors and Coaches,

Due to statewide concerns with COVID-19 (Coronavirus), no athletic contests will be allowed March 16th – March 29th. Practices may be held with approval from the school district. At this time, all athletic activities will resume on March 30th.  The following information is intended to assist school districts and District Executive Committees in conducting activities when activities resume. With this time off from athletic activities, this means that district certification dates will be altered.  Please carefully read the information below to obtain important information concerning the respective sports:

Junior High Sports:  Junior High sports are under the same restrictions as high school sports, but will not qualify for exceptions to the school week or calendar week limitation upon resumption of play.

Practice Limitations: If practicing while school is not in session, schools shall limit practice for UIL activities to a maximum of eight hours per school week per activity, in addition to a maximum of sixty minutes per day, (or 300 minutes per week on a block schedule), Monday through the end of the school day on Friday.

NOTE: School practices (to include open gyms, open weight rooms, etc..) are up to the discretion of the local school district.

Eligibility:  If school is not in session for a full calendar week or more, all students are academically eligible.

School Week Limitation:  Once activites resume, UIL will allow for an exception to the school week limitation for varsity district contests in soccer, tennis, softball, and baseball.

DEC Responsibility:  The DEC is responsible for determining all district schedules, meets, and tournaments dates, along with determining procedures for deciding post-season district representatives.

This is a fluid situation and additional information will come should further changes take place.  Please contact your DEC first if you have specific scheduling questions.  The UIL athletic staff will also be readily available for contact at anytime.

Thank you,
Susan Elza, Ed.D.
UIL Director of Athletics
